Genius training

Listening to Shane Ross’ Edit Bay podcast, he mentions in a few episodes that he was an apple tech support specialist before becoming an editor. He originally wanted to be a cinematographer but his skills with apple computers (which avid ran on at the time) caught the attention of a producer, and they stuck him in the edit bay. That got me thinking. Gizmodo’s Sam Biddle wrote a great article (here) analyzing the apple’s genius training handbook. I’m going to start my apple tech training. After all, an artist knows their canvas, and one day the coveted iMac will be my canvas. A very expensive canvas, but a canvas nonetheless.

Project timeframes

According to Shane Ross in episode 15 of The Edit Bay podcast, “a one hour cable documentary typically takes about five weeks for a single editor to complete from capture to output. A two hour doc about ten weeks.”
